Toronto, ON – The Mustangs swimming team had an impressive outing at the OUA Stratten Divisional Championships at the University of Toronto this weekend, finishing 2nd in Women's standings while the Men's side finished 4th.

"The team's overall performance was solid, we've made some changes in our training program that will pay off later in the season," said Mustangs Head Coach Paul Midgley.

Reigning Mustangs Female Athlete of the Year Shona Branton had another standout performance at the event, sweeping the breaststroke events ( 50m, 100m & 200m) and also contributing to the 1st place finish in the Women's 200m Medley Relay.

"I was pleasantly surprised with Shona's race results for so early in the season," said Midgley

Other notable results were Kieran Stone winning the men's 200m Freestyle while also taking 3rd in the 200m IM. Danielle Treasure finished 2nd in the 200m Freestyle & 400m Freestyle while also finishing 2nd with the Women's 200m Freestyle Relay & 400m Freestyle Relay.

Midgley is also keeping an eye on the program's future, saying, "Future looks promising with rookies Kyle Stuckless and Zea Wetzlaugk leading the way."  Wetzlaugk finished 2nd in the 50m Freestyle & third in the 100m Freestyle while also swimming with the 2nd place finishing 200m Freestyle Relay & 400m Freestyle Relay. Stuckless took second in the 50m Breaststroke while also swimming to third place with the 200m Freestyle Relay & 400m Freestyle Relay teams.

The results of the weekend give the Mustangs a good idea of the areas to work on as they move into the new year towards the OUA & U SPORTS Championships.
