Six Mustangs are taken in 2025 CFL Draft

London, ON - The 2025 CFL Draft was highlighted by six members of the Mustangs Football program getting selected to their respective teams on Tuesday night.

The first Mustangs to be taken off the board was Offensive Lineman Erik Andersen when he was selected 13th overall from the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The London, ON native came to Western from Lucas S.S. He has been invited to the NY Giants Mini Camp May 9 & 10. Andersen has been a steady force on the Mustangs offence since joining the program in 2021.
 
The next pick came just three picks later at 16th overall when Defensive Back Jackson Findlay was selected by the BC Lions. The native of North Vancouver, BC is headed back to the west coast after a 2024 season where he was named the President's Trophy winner as the OUA's Most Outstanding Stand-Up Defensive Player of the Year as well as being amongst the U SPORTS Top 8 Academic All Canadians.

"Getting drafted to BC is a childhood dream come true." said Findlay "To play in front of my family and friends is the best situation I could have wished for! I am super excited to put on the pads and compete for BC and can't wait for next week".
 
The next Mustangs to be picked came in the 4th round, 35th overall when the Montreal Alouettes took a Quebec native in Keanu Yazbeck. The speedy, skilled running back has ran for over 1200 yards in his four season with the Mustangs. In 2024 he had five touchdowns in the regular season and added three more in the post season.

"Getting picked by the ALS is even sweeter, being away from home since high school has been a very enjoyable process, creating relationships and friendships that will last me a lifetime." said Yazbeck "Coming home to play in front of my family and friends means the world to me. Putting on for my community has always been deeply routed in my drive and will to succeed!"
 
The fourth Mustangs taken on the night was Alex Berwick, he joins Findlay with the BC Lions that picked him in the 7th round, 59th overall. The native of Ottawa, ON has secured the middle of the field on the offensive side of the ball as the teams Center the last two seasons.

"It's a pretty full circle moment for me, I get to go to the team that my current strength coach (Dave Mackie) just retired from there and I get a chance to play for the same organization." said Berwick "The current strength coach for the Lions Tanner Care , I had the privilege to work with him coming up in high school. So super happy to get to work with him again."
 
The next Mustangs to be selected came just two picks later when Max von Muehldorfer was picked by his hometown Calgary Stampeders. The powerhouse defensive lineman had 19 tackles this season with 1.5 sacks.

"Getting Drafted in the CFL has been a goal of mine since I step foot on Westerns campus back in 2021, now that it finally happens it feels surreal and the cherry on top is that I'm going back home to Calgary." said von Muehldorfer "It's very special to be able to go home and play for the stamps, it's the team that I grew up watching my entire life and now to be able to wear the red and white is very special".
 
The final selection of the night came in the 8th round, 70th overall as Linebacker Riley MacLeod was picked by the Montreal Alouettes. The Hamilton native had 29.5 tackles in 2024.

"Couldn't be happier to be in Montreal, I had a great interview with them and loved the coaches and staff." said MacLeod "Montreal is a great city and the Alouettes are a great football club. I can't wait to get to work and go win some games.
 
All of the Mustangs picked in the draft will now look towards their respective teams rookie camps & main training camps in early May.
