WATERLOO, Ont. - The Waterloo Warriors defeated the Western Mustangs with a former FWP Jones Trophy winner in the lineup.
Jayne Cation, who won the outstanding female athlete award following the 2007-08 season, and the Warriors outscored the Mustangs 25-19 on Sept. 25 in an afternoon match.
"It was a good time for us to lose if we had to lose a game," said Western head coach Natascha Wesch. "We shot ourselves in the foot today, made little mistakes and had some errors in decision making under pressure. We didn't play as a team."
Laurie Biewald (Ottawa, Ont.), Karen Harwood (London, Ont.) and Liz Wilson (Ottawa, Ont.) scored tries for the Mustangs, while Martha Goodrow (Aurora, Ont.) added a pair of converts.
"When young athletes come in with the reputation that Western just wins, you have to learn that it just doesn't happen, that it's not the case," Wesch said. "We have a lot of things to work on and we'll work on it in practice this week."
Western (2-1) plays next at home on Saturday Oct. 3 against Wilfrid Laurier at the UWO Rugby Fields at 1 p.m.
