Western squash teams compete in Jesters event, men take home top spot

TORONTO – The Western University squash teams competed this past weekend at the Jester's Event in Toronto where the men's team took home the top spot and the women's team finished second. The tournament included teams from McGill, Laurier, Waterloo, Guelph, Queen's and McMaster.

The men's team had a strong weekend, defeating the Toronto 6-1, Laurier 7-0, and McGill 5-2. The men fell short in a close match against Queen's 4-3.

The women's team was defeated in tough competition with a 7-0 loss to Toronto and a 4-3 loss to Queen's before gaining momentum to defeat Laurier in a 7-0 sweep.

The men's team finished the weekend with 48 points, making them the overall winners of the West division, with McMaster closely trailing behind with 47 points. The women's team was able to gather 25 points, putting them in second place in the West division, just slightly behind the 27 points gathered by the first place University of Waterloo.

The top two teams will advance to the finals at the beginning of February. Western's men's team will face McMaster, while the women's team will face Waterloo. The battle for first place will happen on February 1-2 at Northfield in Kitchener/Waterloo.
