Mustangs to host bronze medal match following loss to McMaster

HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mustangs will have the opportunity to fight for their third consecutive bronze medal next weekend on home turf following a 29-0 semi-final loss to the McMaster Marauders. The game marked the third year in a row that the two teams met in the penultimate playoff contest of the OUA season.

McMaster's points were almost perfectly distributed between athletes, with Steph Black recording nine points while Katie Svoboda, Sara Svoboda, Lauren Walkden, and Maddy Seatle each recorded a single try.

The first 20 minutes saw the game go scoreless, with neither team able to cross the opposing goal line. McMaster would be the first to land a try, with Steph Black eventually finding her way through a tough purple and white defence.

Her try wasn't the last before the half, with both Katie and Sara Svoboda finding the in-goal area to give the Marauders a 19-0 lead.

The final 40 minutes saw Western hold the Marauders to only ten points, with Walken and Seatle recording majors before the end of the game.

The Mustangs are back in action next weekend, when they host the Bronze medal matchup on October 29. Their opponent will be determined by the results of tomorrow's contest between Queen's and Guelph.
