Mustangs fall to CIS No. 1 Marauders in regular season finale

HAMILTON, Ont. – Despite holding the defending CIS Champions to only 10 points in the first half, a strong second half from the Marauders led McMaster over Western by a 43-7 score on Thursday night.
 
The win moves McMaster to 5-0 on the year, while the purple and white record sits at 3-2 heading into playoffs.
 
Veronica Harrigan and Lexi Smith marked their names on the scoresheet for the Mustangs, scoring a try and convert respectively.
 
Katie Svoboda was the driving offensive force for McMaster with three majors throughout the game, while Sara Svoboda added four converts. Also scoring points was Colleen Irowa, Steph Black, Maddi Cohoon, and Maddy Seatle with one try each.
 
The first half saw the Mustangs hold the CIS number one Marauders to just two tries, but McMaster came out for the second half and took control of the scoreboard. Another 37 points would go up before the final whistle, while Western recorded a single try and convert.
 
The Mustangs end their regular season second in OUA West, falling to Guelph and McMaster and topping Laurier, Waterloo, and Brock. Western's first playoff matchup will be determined by regular season contests across the OUA tomorrow.
