Weekend Recap - Oct. 14 to Oct. 16

London, ON - Many of Western's teams were in action this past weekend, with recaps and results below. 

MEN'S HOCKEY 
The Men's Hockey team started their season this past weekend, with one home game and one away.

WOMEN'S RUGBY 
The Women's Rugby team hosted the Toronto Varsity Blues at Alumni Field on Sunday for the OUA Quarterfinal. The purple and white came away with a 18-10 win.

MEN'S RUGBY
The Mustangs hit the road to Waterloo on Saturday, as they took on Laurier in their second to last game of the regular season.

Western took home a 34-17 win, improving to 4-1 on the season. The team will close out the regular season at home against Waterloo on Saturday. 


FOOTBALL 
The Football team had their last regular season home game on Saturday, winning 50-18 over the Windsor Lancers.

GOLF 
The OUA Golf Championship took place this weekend, with Rylie Grogan securing the gold medal while the women's team brought home silver.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
The Women's Soccer team travelled to Windsor on Sunday to take on the Lancers. The purple and white secured a 1-0 victory, with Mackenzie Bilotta netting the lone goal on an assist from Maddy Skinner in the 37th minute.

The team will close out the regular season next Sunday at York. 
 

MEN'S SOCCER 
Two second half goals saw the Mustangs tie 1-1 on Sunday afternoon in Windsor. Kyle Gibson scored first for the Mustangs in the 65th minute from an assist by Brandon Miranje. Windsor tied it up 10 minutes later.

The purple and white head to York next Sunday to close out the regular season. 
 

MEN'S LACROSSE 
The Men's Lacrosse team hosted two games this weekend, winning both. Up first was Brock on Friday, who the purple and white beat 10-6. The team closed out the weekend on Saturday night with a dominant 21-0 win against Laurentian. 


WOMEN'S LACROSSE
The Mustangs went 2-0 in their Saturday double header this past weekend in Hamilton. The purple and white took home a 23-6 win against Ontario Tech before closing out the day with another win, this time 12-6 against the University of Toronto. 
 

WATER POLO
The Water Polo team played two games on the road on Saturday, going 1-1. 

First up for the Mustangs was the Carleton Ravens, who topped Western 11-14. The purple and white bounced back later in the day against Ottawa, securing a 12-7 win. 
 

FIELD HOCKEY 
The Field Hockey team played two games this weekend, one home and one away. 

The Mustangs hosted McGill on Saturday, taking home the 8-1 win before losing to York 2-5 on Sunday afternoon in Toronto in what was their last season game.  

 

SOFTBALL 
It was a busy weekend for the Mustangs, who were in action every day this weekend for a total of six games. They swept all three series. 

On Friday the team hosted Guelph, with the Mustangs taking the series 2-0 with 7-0 and 10-1 wins. The purple and white took home their next series win against Laurier on Saturday. The first game saw a 7-0 score, while the second ended 12-6. 

Finally, the team closed out the weekend with a doubleheader against Waterloo on Sunday. The day was the last home games of the season for the 'Stangs, and marked Senior day with lone senior Lauren Greco being recognized. The Mustangs took the first game 7-0 and the second 15-4. 

Western is headed to the OUS (Ontario University Softball) Championship this coming weekend.

 

ULTIMATE FRISBEE
The Ultimate Frisbee team took part in the Canadian University Ultimate Championships this weekend in Belleville. 


Women's Team 

The team started off Saturday with a 13-1 win against Toronto, before losing 6-8 to Sherbrooke. The Mustangs closed out the day with a 10-5 win against Carleton. 

It was a similar situation on Sunday, as the 'Stangs started off the day with a 9-6 win against Waterloo. They followed the win with a 7-9 loss to TMU before winning their final match of the day against York 11-5. 

The Mustangs ended up as the Division 2 Bronze Medalists.

Open Team

The purple and white went 3-0 on Saturday, winning 15-6 against Trent, 12-6 against York and 14-12 against Laval. 

Western took on Carleton and Sherbrooke on Sunday, losing 10-15 and 7-11 respectively to close out the weekend. 

The team took home fourth place. 

 

CROSS COUNTRY
The Cross Country team took part in the Marauder Bayfront Open on Friday in Hamilton. 

The Men's 8k was first to take place, with Western securing a third place team finish. The top individual finisher for the Mustangs was Keithan Sivapragasam in 13th. Team results are listed below.

On the women's side, Western had four finishers in the top ten. The team took home an overall second place finish. Sophie Coutts was Western's top individual finisher with a second place finish. Team results are listed below.
