Three individual gold medals and a 2nd place team finish at U of T Open

Toronto, ON - The Mustangs Wrestling team delivered a strong performance at the U of T Open on Saturday, earning impressive individual results and solid team placements. The men's team finished second overall, while the women secured third place. In combined team scoring, Western clinched a second-place finish, marking another successful tournament for the squad this season.

The Mustangs' standout performances were highlighted by three individual gold medalists. Treye Trotman continued his dominant form, winning his third consecutive gold medal of the season. Trotman went 4-0 in the tournament, winning all his matches by technical superiority, while outscoring his opponents 47-1.

Gavin Eldridge also claimed gold, displaying a mix of technical dominance and power. He won two matches by technical superiority and finished his other two with pins. On the women's side, Jonelle Clarke led the charge, taking gold in the 65kg division. Clarke picked up three wins on her way to the top of the podium.

Reflecting on the performance, head coach Scott Proctor expressed pride in his team's efforts. "This was a great way to end off our first term," Proctor said. "We will continue to train over the month of December so we are ready to go in January when our competitions start up again."

The U of T Open marks the final tournament of the semester for the Mustangs, who now turn their attention to preparing for a competitive second term.
